My fiance and I had been dating for a number of years when I finally decided to work up the courage to ask her to marry me. I wanted to pop the question in a unique but sentimental way so I started the brainstorming process. After being stumped for some time I decided to ask my Father how he asked Mom the big question. He told me that he had planned a huge birthday celebration for her where he had friends and family from all over the area to be there to celebrate Mom's birthday. It was a very nice day in June they had a great BBQ with everyone having a wonderful time. Then it came time for the birthday cake. Dad had the bakery put "Happy Birthday Donna! Will You Marry Me?" I thought this was very sweet and decided I would use the same idea with my own twist.
I asked my Mom to contact my then girlfriend Megan and plan me a surprise birthday party. My parents and Megan's parents were privy to the big surprise. So they spent an entire month planning a "surprise" birthday party for me. In reality I had been planning the whole thing with her family and my family the entire time. My Mom kept her busy with menial tasks like decorations and including friends that Mom wouldn't think to include. We orchestrated the whole event by renting out a banquet room at a nice hotel having friends from all over the country come to be a part of the big day. I secretly had to make dozens of phone calls and tell people what the party was really for to insure they would come. Her sister flew in from Canada just to make the big day even more special.
So went to dinner for my birthday and the whole time I can tell that Megan is bursting at the seams trying not to spoil the "surprise" party. I had a little fun with it by delaying and claiming that I needed to make few unnecessary stops, questioning why were going to this hotel, I was feeling tired and maybe we should call it an early night. Finally I gave in and went to the hotel. She got me to walk around the brand new hotel just to check it out. She then had to convince me to go into the banquet room, I opened the door and everyone yelled the customary "Surprise!!". I walked around shook people's hands gave a few winks and then went to the cake table.
There was a small cake from our favorite bakery sitting there. It said, "Happy Birthday Matt" on it. Everyone sang Happy Birthday and I clapped and played along. Problem was there was well over 100 people there and enough cake for maybe 20. So my Dad came up to Megan and I and said, "We have another cake also to serve to people." Then brought the cake over to where Megan and I were standing and set it on the cake table. Megan wasn't paying attention at this time so I started laughing like something funny was written on it and then beckoned her over to read the second cake. It said, "Megan Will You Marry Me?" on it. After she read it and looked over at me while I was getting down on one knee with the beautiful Fire ring in my hand that I had put an nearly 1 carat European cut family stone in. Her jaw dropped and the first thing she said was, "You knew about the surprise!!!!" Then she said yes everyone in the room cheered and spent the rest of the night among the family and friends that we love so dearly. This day was perfect, and made flawless by the perfect ring. Thank you so much Mark, your rings are beautiful and I can't wait to purchase many more for the perfect woman in my life.
