AJDC Inspiration

Published by Dane

Mark is working on his project for the American Jewelry Design Council (AJDC). Each year, AJDC chooses a theme, and based on that theme, each member creates a one-of-a-kind piece for artistic value only, not for sale.  If you want to see what the AJDC is all about, check out their website http://ajdc.org/

This year’s project theme is “Ice.” While Mark brainstorms, we’re looking for your feedback and suggestions you might have for designing something using the theme “Ice.” For some inspiration, check out some of Mark’s past projects for AJDC.

Here is a link to see entries by other designers as well http://ajdc.org/designproject/index.html

Keep checking back and you can follow this project as Mark develops his interpretation of “Ice.” We will guide you through the process and eventually post an image of the completed project. This is Mark’s favorite project that he looks forward to each year because he gets to express himself without the constraints of making something for commercial value – it’s just for fun!

New Color Collection!

Published by Dane

Mark Schneider is excited to announce a stunning new color collection featuring Montana agates, fire opals, and diamond slices.
After his many visits to Montana, contemporary designer Mark Schneider was intrigued by the bold, natural landscape. Often finding design inspiration from nature, Mark was delighted to find the raw beauty of Montana in a careful selection of Montana agates. From the unique natural patterns within the stones to the way light ignites the vivid colors of browns, yellows, oranges, and grays, each one is a work of art.
Mark’s new designs are bold, striking, and as fiery as the sun setting across the mountains that inspired them. The collection has taken form in a variety of rings, earrings, and pendants, which will be making their debut at the JCK show in Las Vegas.
Mark has always had a passion for natural fire opals. It was not until his recent visit to the 2012 Tucson Gem Show and his discovery of natural diamond slices that inspiration struck. In the two natural stones, fire opals and diamond slices, Mark’s saw a harmony of colors and organic quality, that meld into beautiful, wearable art.
The collection showcases Mark’s love of fire opals, of which no two are exactly alike. He chooses stones carefully to find the ones with exceptional play of color in organic, natural shapes, which he chose to combine with diamond slices, another natural stone.

Another Customer Engagement/Wedding Story!

Published by Dane

We'd like to share another beautiful customer story with you!

"My wife, Gwladys and I met at Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, UAE on the 4th March 2009. Mall of the Emirates is a shopping mall that includes Ski Dubai and the Kempenski Hotel.  I couldn't have been less prepared to meet my future wife. I was jet lagged, unshaven, hungry, tired and dressed in gym clothes. Hardly impressive.  The first words to myself when I laid on Gwladys were "God, how did you make such a stunning woman."  It was one of those crossroad moments in life where had I not thrown caution into the wind and said hi, I would possible be still roaming the globe in search of love.

Fast forward about 3 years to 14 Feb 2012, I found myself proposing under a huge majestic gumtree in Werribee Park. (Within Werribee Park you can find attractions such as the world class Werribee Mansion, Werribee Open Range Zoo, National Equestrian Center and the Victorian State Rose Garden). 6 weeks later we were at the Victorian State Rose Garden exchanging nuptials with a beautiful ring that was custom made by the fantastic team at Dave Schneider Jewelry, Long Beach Los Angeles..

The rest is history...!"

Thanks to Gwladys and Stephen for sharing their story and pictures with us! If you'd like your story to appear on our blog, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Mark Receives MJSA Vision Awards & Selects Diamonds!

Published by Dane

Mark was recently in New York City to accept his two MJSA American Vision Awards. The addition of these two awards put him at 7 awards already won in 2012. He is very honored to already have had such a great year, and looks forward to having a great second half.

While he was in New York, he also visited a few museums for inspiration and had the extreme privilege of private tours through a few of  New York's diamond dealers. He got to see some large rough diamonds, including this fancy pink one, valued at over $1 million! Take a look at the following pictures to see how Mark goes about inspecting and choosing precious stones.

Mark Visits with GIA Students

Published by Dane

Mark recently spent quality time with some GIA students, discussing design and showing them the ins-and-outs of jewelry production.  He received a very nice note from one of the students, which we would like to share with you:

Dear Mr. Schneider,
Thank you for meeting with us on Saturday. It means a lot when people who are successful and talented, such as yourself, give back to the industry. It is rare that people at your level of success are willing to spend time with students, and I thank you for devoting hours to helping us.
I enjoyed that you not only talked to us about the creative aspect of your jewelry, but also the business aspect. Unlike many other industries, it is hard to learn how to run a jewelry design business, so I found your information very beneficial.
I look forward to seeing more of your award winning designs in publications, and I hope to stay in touch. Thank you for your help and time.
Best regards,
Liz

Another Engagement Story - Dan & Mandi!

Published by Dane

We have another beautiful engagement story to share with you.

Check out below to read about Dan and Mandi!

Dan Salem and Mandi Mellen first met way back in the fall of 2002, at a small pizza parlor on the campus of Boston University.  It was late at night and Dan was all by himself, looking for someone to share a slice with.  He eyed a friend from class, and was quickly sharing a pie with several people including Mandi.  After introductions, the two talked exclusively about life, dreams, and aspirations.  The others were still there, but not in Dan and Mandi's world.  The two left to go frolic some more, and Dan ultimately walked Mandi all the way to her front door.  Coming upstairs wasn't an option, BU had strict guest policies, but no matter, the two would see one another only days later.  Their love grew stronger and stronger from there.  They graduated, moved to Los Angeles with friends, began their conquest of Hollywood, defeated Mandi's cancer, and enjoyed nine amazing Valentine's Days together.  On the tenth Love day, Dan and Mandi sat down to exchange gifts.  Mandi had lovely chocolate treats to share, and Dan followed suite with a bag of custom made baked treats.  But inside the bag was also a Mark Schneider Luxury engagement ring!  Dan handed the box to Mandi.  She untied the bow, opened it up, and as Dan asked her to marry him, she put the ring right on her finger and smiled.  He waited as she glowed, reminding her to please say yes.  Mandi did of course, and the two are now happily engaged.

New Fire Opal & Diamond Slice Designs!

Published by Dane

Mark has been working on some new designs incorporating fire opals and diamond slices

(a thin slice of a diamond, without the usual facets, with a rose cut top).

He chose to pair these two stones together because they are both unusual and

different, freeform and raw, with colors that complement each other.

Check out his sketches for pendants, earrings and rings.

Here is one of the finished rings!

Tell us what you think!
