A World of Color
THE 2002 AGTA SPECTURM AWARDS
Welcome to a wonderful world of color. The 2002 ATGA Spectrum Awards celebrates the best in color gemstone and jewelry design. This year’s edition seems more vibrant and stunning than ever. Perhaps it’s because the natural colored gemstone and jewelry design competition always brings out the best qualities of jewelry designers: The winners’ creative use of color, flair for the dramatic, and delightful lapidary artistry is a pleasure for the senses.
The American Gem Trade Association made a number of changes to this year’s contest. The Spectrum Awards replaced the previous method of categorizing designs by price point with more progressive fashion categories: evening, business/day, casual, bridal, and men’s. Designs are also judges for Manufacturing Honors as well as Platinum Honors (sponsored by Platinum Guild International USA). The Cutting Edge awards were also included in the competition. The Lapidary arts categories: classis gemstone, faceting, carving, combination, pairs & suites, and objects of art.
On the following pages are highlights from the 2002 AGTA Spectrum Awards. As always, it’s a colorful kickoff to the Tucson gem fair season.
