HOW TO LOOK RED CARPET READY WITH JEWELRY

Awards season is always a fashion extravaganza. Filled with stunning dresses, breathtaking accessories and on-trend footwear, awards show red carpets are bursting with fresh style. This year, the top red carpet trend was deceptively simple: bold necklaces. Although it rained in Los Angeles on the night of the Oscars, celebrities on the red carpet created their own glow with massive gemstone necklaces. Bold necklaces have been popular for the past few years, but they were taken to a new extreme. From Zoë Saldana’s sparkling diamond choker to Cate Blanchett’s turquoise necklace, the carpet was dripping with gemstones. And of course, fashion experts where thrilled and delighted by Scarlett Johansson’s emerald green crystal neck adornment. However, bold necklaces aren’t only for movie stars. To ensure that your next look is red carpet approved, follow these three simple rules.

1)      Bigger is Better

In the 1980’s it was all about big hair. In 2015, it’s about big bling. In order to embrace the bold necklace trend, it’s important to fully commit to large jewelry. Instead of opting for a “safe” chain or small pendant, choose necklaces that will serve as a focal point. After all, there’s nothing worse than only following a trend halfway.

2)      Color is In

If there’s one thing to be learned from the 2015 awards season, it’s that color is making a comeback in a big way. Instead of opting for sparkle that comes in the form of traditional diamonds, choose pieces that add an unexpected pop of color. In fact, Cate Blanchett’s outfit for the Oscars only had one element of color: her turquoise necklace. However, using jewelry as a festive pop of color isn’t the only way to go. With a draping necklace that perfectly matched her gown, Scarlett Johansson proved that matching is excellent as well.

3)      Length Matters

This year, necklace length was fairly universal: collarbone or higher. Although there were some notable exceptions, the general trend was short necklaces. The beauty of shorter jewelry is that it serves as a focal point. With short necklaces, the viewer’s gaze is immediately central and as a result, the outfit is experienced as a whole instead of in separate parts. Of course, short necklaces are often best paired with slightly lower necklines. However, the necklace can also be layered over dress material, as modeled by Cate Blanchett at this year’s Oscars. By following these three simple jewelry trends, you’re guaranteed to be a star.
