The Secret Heart Collection
gold, platinum and palladium nuggets

We can make most of our pieces in either Platinum, Gold or Palladium. Read about all three below to decide which is the best choice for you.

Platinum

Platinum is a naturally white, very rare, precious metal and is ideally suited for setting gemstones. Its density and weight make it more durable than most other jewelry metals. Platinum does not wear away; it merely displaces, and holds precious stones firmly and securely. It is 35 times rarer than gold; and this exclusivity makes it the most valuable of the jewelry metals. Platinum is hypoallergenic and never needs rhodium plating. The fines scratches Platinum develops with time give it a natural patina; considered by many to be as attractive as a high polished finish.

Gold

The most popular and highly prized metal since ancient times, pure gold is very soft and naturally yellow. It is alloyed with other metals for use as a jewelry metal, to give it strength and durability. Depending on the alloy used, golds of various colors from yellow, pink, green to white will result. Most jewelry is alloyed to 14 karat (58% pure gold) or 18 karat (75% pure gold). Pure gold is very dense, very malleable and will not react with most chemicals. Gold’s malleability makes it very suitable for most jewelry making techniques. White gold is rhodium plated to give it a high white sheen.

Palladium

Palladium is a naturally white metal, and even though it is a member of the Platinum group of metals it is an extremely affordable alternative to White Gold and Platinum; Like Platinum it is an hypoallergenic metal that does not need rhodium plating. Palladium is used in jewelry at 95% purity and retains its high white luster, never tarnishing or becoming dull.
