Mark Schneider’s extensive collection of loose colored gemstones offers endless inspiration for one-of-a-kind custom designs. His assortment includes gems cut in original ways and which possess phenomenal optical properties. As a creative exercise, we browsed through these gems and designed figurative suites that could potentially be created from these available materials. Check our blog these next few weeks to see all four suites!
The Deep Sea Treasures suite uses marine motifs to express themes of transition and metamorphosis. A mermaid and octopus are partially rendered in yellow gold, diamond, tsavorite garnet, citrine, and onyx. But most unconventionally, ammolite—formed from the fossilization of prehistoric creatures—and betryoidal fire agates shine like the scales of a fish in an iridescent spectrum of hues.
