TOP FASHION TRENDS FROM THE 2014 AWARDS SEASON
After the dazzling and star-studded red carpet of last week’s Oscars, another Hollywood award season has come to an end. This year’s season of fashion was flooded with breathtaking choices. From Lupita Nyong'o’s princess-inspired gown at the Oscars to Mila Kunis’s sterling silk chiffon halter at the Golden Globes, there was no shortage of fabulous designer wear. But perhaps even more exciting, there was also no shortage of stunning jewelry.
Huge bling is never a surprise during awards season, but this year the red carpet was alight with unique and elegant gems. Instead of pairing sparkle with sparkle, celebs opted for a more understated look by choosing one unique and show-stopping piece.
The Golden Globes kicked off awards season in January and set the bar for show-stopping gemstones. The people’s darling, Jennifer Lawrence, made E! Online’s “Best Bling” list with flawlessly crafted green teardrop earrings that effortlessly highlighted her fashionable new pixie cut. By opting out of a necklace, her colored gemstone earrings were given the spotlight they deserved.
Also abiding by the “less is more” rule of the night, winner of Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Amy Adams, wowed in a gold, barely-there pendant necklace. Matched with understated circular diamond earrings and a low-cut red dress, Adams was a true star.
Two weeks later, the Grammy’s took center stage. As the awards show notorious for prompting outrageous dressing and pushing style to the limit, the jewelry at the Grammys did not disappoint. Although keeping it relatively simple, Miranda Lambert’s slinky red dress oozed sex appeal. She added the perfect finish with fun yet classy dangling multi-colored gemstone earrings. The earrings drew the viewer’s eye to her gorgeous makeup and blonde curls. By opting for one statement piece, Lambert was also able to draw extra attention to her sparkling engagement ring and wedding band from country music star husband Blake Shelton.
The Oscars continued the trend of one-of-a-kind statement pieces with Charlize Theron rocking an incredible choker from designer Harry Winston. Paired with simple diamond studs, it was impossible to ignore the beautiful cluster diamond necklace.
It seems that the lesson learned from this year’s Awards season is one of simplicity; when it comes to jewelry, quality and uniqueness are paramount.
